This logo was designed for a Wellington Second Line band called Richter City Rebels.
’Second Line’ music harks to New Orleans big-band parades and mardis gras while Richter City Rebels’ home turf is Cuba St. of Wellington. As such, the band wears Cuban revolutionary uniforms. Their music also has hip-hop flavours.
So, here, the fleurs-de-lis represent New Orleans (as seen on her flag), the star represents Cuba (as seen on her flag) while the bold RCR logotype, set against a medallion brings it all to street-level.
It’s a pretty direct solution, but it works well.
